Yes, the authority for accepting or rejecting a company name application only rests with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA.)

What are the Important Company Naming Guidelines?
- The following are some of the important guidelines to keep in mind while choosing your company name:

Identical Name
The name cannot be identical or similar to an existing company, LLP or trademark. Plural version, joining or separating words, spacing, different tense, different spelling, addition of place, addition of titles and other minor differences would not make the company name unique. -
Trademark
The name cannot infringe on a registered trademark or on an application for registration of a trademark -
Constitution
There cannot be words indicative of a separate type of business constitution or legal person or any connotation. For example, words like co-operative, sehkari, trust, partnership, proprietor, society, HUF, firm, Inc., cannot be a part of a company name. -
Patronage
There should not be any association or connection with patronage of a national hero or any person held in high esteem. Proposed name cannot imply association with Indian or Foreign Government. -
Financial Terms
There cannot be words like insurance, bank, stock exchange, venture capital, asset management, mutual fund or other financial activity unless declaration received from Regulatory Bodies like RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, etc., -
Government Relevance
Name cannot have words like National, Indian, Hindustan, Government, Central, Union, or Ministry in it unless prior approval from government is obtained.

When will the company name get rejected?
- According to the MCA guidelines, a business name also has a higher chance of rejection if the name features any of these mistakes mentioned below:
- The name is falsely indicative of the business activities.
- The name is a close resemblance to that of existing companies (eg. McRonalds)
- The name is offensive in any language.
- The names are abbreviations. (eg. SDR, PMT)
- The name contains full stops or commas
